Charles Pierce Blackman ¹

   General Notes:

Traveled by wagons and settled near Ottumwa, IA from around Vinton County, Ohio sometime after 1860.
Charles and Antonetti's first baby died at birth. He moved to Omaha, Douglas County, NE sometime before 1887. He worked as a plasterer, bricklayer, and butcher.
His son George wrote in a letter that Charles was born March 20, 1850, but obit from Newspapers say he was born March 28, 1853.
Charles worked in construction most his life and as he got older, would live with different relatives. He was mean and hard to live with, when he wore out his welcome at one place, he would move in with another. Sometimes he would live with his ex-wife Antonetti and her husband Charles Mervard, and also with his son George Lyman Blackman and his family.
He lived at the Mills County Farm the last 18 years of his life. In 1949 at age 95, he fell out of bed and died 3 days later.
He is interned at the Glenwood Cemetery without a marker, and the cemetery records for the year he died were lost and it is unknown were his grave is.

Charles married Antonetti Houver, daughter of William Mckendry Houver and Elizabeth Walker, on 2 Jul 1876 in Chillicothe, Iowa. (Antonetti Houver was born on 20 May 1860 in Chillicothe, Wapello County, Iowa and died on 22 Jan 1959 in Glenwood, Mills County, Iowa.)
