General Notes:
In Meigs County Ohio, there was a John Blackman that lived in Sutton Twp.(1840 U.S. Federal Census). In Wapello County Iowa, John Blackman lived with his wife Catharine. He was age 25 from NH and she 22 from OH.(1850 Federal Population Census, Wapello County District #13 family #1351, taken 28Nov1850). Also in the 1860 Wapello County census, it showed him as having $700 in Real Estate and $195 in Personal Value. It showed John as 35 from HH., Catharine as 32 from Ohio, and son Charles born in Iowa. The 1870 census in Wayne County shows John as 45, a farmer, $1500 in Real Estate value, 500 in Personal value, and born in Ohio. Also shows wife Catharine as 42 from Ohio, daughter Esther age 9 born in Iowa, and daughter Ida age 4 also born in Iowa. He lived in or near Chillicothe, Wapello County, Iowa in the late 1850's and 1860's. Had three children that died early and are buried in Chillicothe. He and his wife are buried in the Humeston Cemetery in Wayne County Iowa. John and his brother Lewis moved from Chillicothe, Wapello County, Iowa, to Wayne County, Iowa, in the 1860's, about the time their brother George moved to Chillicothe from Ohio. (From the Will of Moses Blackman) Item first - I give and devise to my son John Blackman the farm on which we now reside being the East part of the North East quarter of Section Ten, township Eleven and of Range Seventeen ---- County of Athens and State of Ohio, containing about sixty-three acres being the same land deeded to me by James Fuller and wife on the 4th day of October A.D. 1836. Also the South West quarter of the North West quarter of Section Eleven, Township No Eleven of Range Number Seventeen. Also the North West quarter of the South West quarter of Section No Eleven, Township No Eleven and of Range Seventeen, all ---- in the County of Athens and State of Ohio. And also I give and devise to my son John Blackman, all the stock, household goods, furniture, provisions and other goods which I may be possessed of at the time of my decease - provided he shall pay all of my just debts, funeral expenses -, in a reasonable time after my decease,...I do hereby nominate and appoint my son John Blackman Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby authorizing and empowering him to compromise, adjust, release and discharge in such manner as he may deem proper the debts and claims due me. Have seen both January 11, 1823 and 1826 as Johns birthday.

John married Catharine West, daughter of Noah West and Mary Ann Gibbs, on 23 Mar 1847 in Athens County, Ohio 16. (Catharine West was born on 27 Apr 1828 in Ohio, died on 25 Jan 1911 in Richman Township, Wayne County, Iowa and was buried in Humeston Cemetery, Humeston, Wayne County, Iowa.)
