   General Notes:

From the book 'HISTORY OF HOCKING VALLEY OHIO' CHICAGO: INTER-STATE PUBLISHING CO. 1883
CHAPTER XLV, page 1236.
Daniel Cram, farmer, was born Aug. 1, 1815, in Hillsboro
County, N. H., a son of Azel and Lydia (Lewis) Cram, natives of
New Hampshire, who lived and died in their native State. The
former died in 1834 and the latter in 1832. Our subject was
reared on the farm in New Hampshire where he lived till after his
father's death. In 1837 he came to his present place, where in
spite of disadvantages and hardships, he has succeeded in life, and
from a wilderness of forty acres he has made a good home, and at
present owns a well-cultivated farm of 139 acres, where he is en-
gaged in farming and stock-raising, making a specialty of the latter.
He was married in 1838 to Mary A., daughter of Moses Blackman
who settled here at the same time as Mr. Cram. They have had
a family of ten children of whom six are living---James M., Axie
J., George A., Frank, Elizabeth and Stephen S. Those deceased
are---Charles, Lydia, and two who died in infancy. James M. en-
listed in an Iowa regiment in the late war.

I have quite a bit of information on the Crams....if you are interested.
Daniel and Mary Cram were my husband's gggrandparents. We understand that
Daniel was from NH and drove a stagecoach between Athens and Chillicothe, OH
after he came west to Ohio. He stayed in Ohio because he found friendly
Indians and work. He was much liked and respected in the area.
Good luck in your research. Please let me know if you find this
information to be incorrect. (Sharon Walton)
One source shows marrage date as Nov.12,1838.
(From the Will of Moses Blackman) I also give and devise to my son-in-law Daniel Cram, the South half of the North East quarter of the North West quarter of Section No Eleven, Township No Eleven and of Range Seventeen, ---- in the County of Athens and State of Ohio.

   Marriage Information:

Daniel married Mary Ann Blackman, daughter of Moses Blackman and Hannah Wentworth, on 12 Nov 1838 in Athens County, Ohio 8. (Mary Ann Blackman was born on 16 May 1819 in Hillsboro County, New Hampshire, died on 14 Sep 1899 in Vinton County, Ohio and was buried in Sep 1899 in Elk Fork Cemetery, Mcarthur, Vinton County, Ohio.)

   Marriage Notes:

They had ten children including 2 that died in infancy.
Daniel and Mary are buried together in Elk Fork Cemetery, McArthur.
A Family member of the Crams show that they married in September 10, 1838, and another source shows November 18, 1837.
As a young man, Daniel Cram came from New Hampshire to Elk Township in 1837. The following year he married Mary A. Blackman, daughter of Moses Blackman. They all came from New England in the same company. The Crams established their home on the east end of the Ridge where it spreads out into a considerable plateau. Section 11 (where the Cram farm is located) is uniformly high averaging almost 1000 feet. At the east side of the north part of sec. 11 and in sec. 2 adjoining, the ridge ends abruptly in forested bluffs which run down to the Raccoon valley which is very narrow here.
Daniel and Mary Cram reared a large family, now all deceased. Their son James M. served in the Civil war with an Iowa regiment. Their youngest son, Stephen, remained on the farm with his father who lived to an advanced age. Stephen's only son, Charles, now owns and operates the farm. He gives considerable attention to dairy cows. He and his son Ted, recently graduated from McArthur high school, are the only decendants of the pioneers still living on the ridge. David Andrews, a descendant of David Andrews, Sr. and the Bakers who were pioneers, lives off the ridge to the northwest where his father Frank Andrews owned and lived directly east of the Foreman school house.
