He died of paralysis at the age of 63 years, 7 months, and 7 days. His monument is marked with a WOODMEN OF THE WORLD MEMORIAL. This is a obit taken from The Omaha Bee, November 18, 1914: John W. Reece, 63 years old, died Monday night od paralysis at his home, 2013 Leavenworth street. Mr. Reece is well known in Omaha and all over the west as he had been engaged in the horse commission business at South Omaha for many years, having lived in Omaha for over 30 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge at Norfolk. Besides his widow, Mr. Reece is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J.S. Pritchard of New York, three sisters, Mrs. Ben F. Marti, Mrs. W.L. Swisher, and Mrs. Frank Bean of Omaha, and a brother, C.W. Reece of Buffalo, Colo. Funeral arrangements will be made as soon as word is received from the daughter in New York. note: The Elks Lodge of Norfolk was #658 1880 Iowa census, Wapello County, shows he was 28, plasterer, born in Indiana, both parents from Indiana. Wife Mary was 23 and daughter Pearl was 5.

(Mary Katherine Houver was born on 26 May 1856 in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa, died on 26 Oct 1955 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattame County, Iowa and was buried in Westlawn Cemetery, Omaha, Dougles County, Nebraska.)

In the 1880 Fed census, Wapello County Iowa, it shows John W Reece, 28, Plasterer, born in Indiana, also both parents. Mary K, 23, born Iowa, parents in Ohio. Pearl age 5. John and Mary are buried together in Omaha Nebraska at the Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Part, at section23 lot105 spaces 10 & 11. Their daughter Pearl is also buried with them in space 12.
